HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM BEING BATTERED OR ABUSED?

If you answer "yes" to at least one of these questions, you are being abused.
  • Are you humiliated or degraded by name-calling, put-downs, or false accusations?
  • Does your partner make frequent threats to take the children away?
  • Do you have to beg your partner for money?
  • Have you been forced or pressured to have sex?
  • Have you been stopped from seeing friends and family?
  • Do you apologize for your partner's behavior?
  • Are you kept from getting or holding a job?
  • Are you frightened by your partner's temper?
  • Does your partner slap you, throw things at you, or kick you?

In California, it is a crime for any person to threaten, beat, sexually assault or otherwise harm another person, even if they are married.
